POZNAN, Poland
The 510th Regional Support Group, 7th Mission Support Command from Kaiserslautern Germany, mark the beginning of their first ever mobilization in unit history with a Relief in Place/Transfer of Authority ceremony with the 297 Regional Support Group, Alaska Army National Guard, at Camp Kosciuszko in Poznan, Poland, November 21, 2025.
“This morning's ceremony is special for many reasons," said Brig. Gen. John B. Mountford, deputy commanding general of V Corps. " It allows us to recognize the accomplishments of the 297th and it allows us to welcome our new teammates, the 510th, who is operating across Poland and the Baltics at our core operating sites, allowing us in the United States Army to celebrate our total force.
As part of tradition, the 297th RSG transferred logistical support and authority to the 510th RSG, which consists of nine camp bases throughout Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia. While working to support Soldiers and NATO allies across the V Corps area of operations, the 510th RSG will execute base operating support –integration (BOS-I), which improves quality of life and sustain logistical and contractual support.
Col. Michele Edwards, commander of the 297th Regional Support Group, highlights the continuance of the RSG success with setting a strong foundation and continue to support NATO forces by sustaining a forward presence in a way that matters.
"We are here today transferring this mission to the 510th to continue to build on the RSG's legacy," said Edwards. " You are not starting from scratch, this mission is built on solid ground, and you are not just inheriting forward operating sites, but relationships, trust, commitment, and a legacy of excellence
Col. Daniel Meyers, commander of the 510th Regional Support Group, give joyful remarks to the 297th during the ceremony and passionately screams “eagles” as the 510th unit insignia has landed for their first mission ever.
”Today’s ceremony is not just a transfer of authority — it is a reaffirmation of commitment,” said Meyers. “The Regional Support Group mission here in Poland is central to how we, the Army Reserve, set the theater, sustain combat power, and enable the Joint Force in Europe. ”This responsibility is one we do not take lightly.”
The 510th RSG, since being re-activated in September of 2019, has participated in many NATO exercises such as Defender and Avenger Triad. From these training experiences, this mission will continue to develop important relationships and partnerships within the European theater.
Meyers said he is appreciative of the 297th RSG and that the 510th is ready for the mission ahead.
“First, I want to extend my deepest thanks to Col. Michele Edwards and the Soldiers of the 297th RSG. Your professionalism, hard work, and dedication have set the highest standard,” said Meyers. “You have provided food, fuel, equipment, and essential services to the Total Force, ensuring they can remain focused on their missions.” You have built a foundation of excellence that the 510th is proud to inherit and continue.”
