Carrying the legacy: Robert Brow honored at WOTS

MAXWELL AIR FORCE BASE, Ala. — The Warrant Officer Training School dedicated its newest flight, Brow Flight, in honor of retired U.S. Air Force Chief Warrant Officer 4 Robert Brow during a guidon ceremony Nov. 5, which also coincided with Brow’s 94th birthday.

Brow, a Montgomery native, attended the ceremony with his family as Class 26-02 unveiled the guidon bearing his name, which will be carried throughout training until graduation.

WOTS Candidate Nathaniel P. Phillips, who was present for the ceremony as a member of Class 26-02, said being part of the class that took on Brow Flight added a deeper sense of pride and meaning to the moment.

“It really became reality when I was experiencing it right there, in the moment; just a sense of pride being in that position,” said Phillips. “Seeing history remake itself, not repeat itself, but continue and thrive.”

Retired U.S. Air Force Chief Warrant Officer 4 Robert Brow enlisted in 1949 and served more than 21 years, with assignments in Japan, Republic of Korea, Vietnam, Germany and the United States. During his career he served as a radar operator, intercept and weapons controller and programmer. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal with a “V” device in 1967.

“Brow Flight is named in honor of Chief Warrant Officer 4 Robert Brow, whose career stands as a testament to the technical mastery and steadfast leadership warrant officers contribute to our Air Force.” said Master Sgt. Robert Tatum, Warrant Officer Training School instructor.

Carrying the new Brow Flight guidon serves as a daily reminder of WOTS purpose: to honor the past while preparing the next generation of Airmen to lead with integrity, service and excellence.

“We’re not all going to reach that pinnacle of CW4 or CW5,” said Phillips. “But perhaps in the future we’ll see another Chief Brow, maybe even in our lifetime, and we’ll be proud we were part of that history.”
