U.S. Marines and Sailors with 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit Support Foreign Assistance Efforts in Jamaica Following Hurricane Melissa
CARIBBEAN SEA – At the request of the Government of Jamaica and under the direction of U.S. Southern Command, U.S. Marines and Sailors from the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit have commenced foreign humanitarian assistance operations in response to Hurricane Melissa, which struck the region on Oct. 28, 2025.
As part of the initial relief effort, aircraft from the 22nd MEU—embarked with the Iwo Jima Amphibious Ready Group—delivered critical medical supplies and food to impacted communities. Marines and Sailors have established operations in southwestern Jamaica, integrating with Joint Task Force-Bravo to set conditions for sustained support and follow-on assistance.
The 22nd MEU is a forward-deployed, rapid response force capable of executing a broad spectrum of military operations worldwide. Comprised of aviation, ground, and logistics combat elements, the 22nd MEU is uniquely equipped to adapt to mission-specific requirements with speed, precision, and effectiveness. For this operation, the combat logistics battalion is task-organized to deliver foreign assistance, alleviate suffering, and help stabilize affected Jamaican communities.
From maritime security to disaster relief and foreign assistance, the 22nd MEU continues to serve as the force of choice within U.S. Southern Command—capable, ready, and committed to delivering timely support wherever needed.
