LEMC’s state-of-the-art Joint Missile Maintenance Facility in ‘topping out’ stage
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. — In mid-March, officials broke ground at the Letterkenny Munitions Center for a state-of-the-art Joint Missile Maintenance Facility.
The facility is scheduled to be completed in the spring of 2027 and is currently in the “topping out” phase, which signifies the completion of the building’s structural framework and paves the way for interior outfitting and system integration.
JMMF is an organic sustainment hub designed to support precision-guided missile systems across the Army, Air Force, Navy, and Foreign Military Sales partners. The facility enables joint service readiness, explosive safety compliance, and scalable surge capability.
With over 70,000 square feet of operational and storage space, the facility’s open-concept and adaptive layout is engineered to accommodate a wide range of missile systems, including the newest variants of High-Speed Anti-Radiation Missiles, Advanced Medium-Range Air-to-Air Missiles, Sidewinder Missiles, and other Army, Air Force, and Navy weapon systems. JMMF will play a vital role in advancing the Army’s 15-year Organic Industrial Base modernization plan.
“The upgraded capabilities enable us to process a wider range of missile platforms, including those used in joint operations and emerging defense technologies,” said Lt. Col. Jim Beecher, LEMC’s commander. “This expansion not only boosts our operational efficiency but also strengthens our role as an asset in munitions sustainment.
“The facility’s design also allows for future expansion, ensuring that we can scale operations as mission requirements evolve,” Beecher added. “This investment in infrastructure and workforce development reinforces our long-term role in supporting national defense priorities.”
JMMF is engineered to handle the full lifecycle of missile systems, from receipt and inspection to testing, repair, and storage. With advanced infrastructure and cutting-edge equipment, the facility will streamline operations and reduce turnaround times for critical munitions. JMMF’s layout supports collaborative workflows and integrates digital tools to enhance precision and productivity.
