510th Regional Support Group Casing Colors

GRAFENWÖHR, Germany — The 510th Regional Support Group made history with its first-ever casing of the color's ceremony Nov. 3, 2025, in Grafenwöhr, Germany.

The 510th Regional Support Group is one of two regional support groups under the 7th Mission Support Command - the only general officer command stationed in Europe. Later this month, the unit will deploy in support of Operation European Assure, Deter and Reinforce.

Originally constituted Nov. 24, 1967, in the Army Reserve as Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 510th Field Depot, the unit was activated Jan. 30, 1968, in Baltimore, Maryland. It was reorganized and redesignated as the 510th Support Group on Oct. 16, 1984. After 26 years of service, the unit was inactivated Jan. 31, 1994, in Baltimore.

The 510th RSG was reconstituted Dec. 5, 2017, as Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 510th Regional Support Group, and reactivated Sept. 16, 2019, in Kaiserslautern, Germany, where it remains stationed today.

Casing of the colors is a time-honored Army tradition performed prior to a unit’s mobilization, symbolizing a change in location. The unit guidon travels wherever the commander goes, representing the organization’s history and honor. The 510th’s colors will accompany its leadership throughout Poland and across the European theater during the deployment.

Brig. Gen. John P. Stanley, commanding general of the 7th Mission Support Command, attended the ceremony to honor Col. Daniel J. Meyers, commander of the 510th Regional Support Group, and Command Sgt. Maj. Chad R. Rhinehart, the unit’s senior enlisted leader, alongside members of the 510th Regional Support Group.

“This ceremony marks not only an ending, but a continuation — the next chapter in this unit’s proud history,” Stanley said. “Over these past months, the 510th RSG has trained with focus, discipline, and heart. Every repetition and hardship has prepared them for their next mission in the months ahead.”

As the deployment nears, Soldiers of the 510th RSG are eager to begin their mission. For Pfc. Gross, a 31B (military police officer), it will mark the first deployment of his military career.

"I'm excited because this deployment allows me to grow at the start of my career," said Gross. "You never know what is going to happen." The unknown brings a bit of fear, but the best things in life are always on the other side of it. "

After the casing of the colors the formation chanted "Go Eagles," as the 510th RSG stood in this pivotal moment in the unit's history.
