U.S. Marine Corps Forces, Pacific Hosts Staff Talks with Singapore Army

CAMP H.M. SMITH, Hawaii – Senior leaders from U.S. Marine Corps Forces, Pacific, welcomed distinguished visitors from the Singapore Army during the two-day bilateral staff talks from Sept. 30 to Oct. 1, 2025, on Camp H.M. Smith, Hawaii.

The event served as the latest in a long history of engagements between U.S. Marines and Singapore Armed Forces soldiers, highlighting decades of defense cooperation and a shared commitment to regional stability in the Indo-Pacific.

“This is how long-lasting relationships are built,” said U.S. Marine Corps Maj. Gen. Matthew T. Mowery, deputy commander, MARFORPAC. “We could’ve done all this over a zoom meeting, but it just doesn’t hit as hard as it does in person. MARFORPAC values our relationship with Singapore.”

The staff talks centered on opportunities to enhance combined training, expand exercise participation, and improve interoperability across multiple domains. Both nations reaffirmed their commitment to building readiness together and ensuring continued collaboration in support of a free and open Indo-Pacific.

“The aspect that I think is most important between Singapore and the Marine Corps is people to people relationships,” said Singapore Army Brig. Gen. Shi Ming Wong, chief of staff-general staff. “You can’t build it in one or two months, so it becomes very genuine with time.”

The visit concluded with a reaffirmation of the mutual commitment to peace, security, and cooperation across the Indo-Pacific, continuing a tradition of close partnership that strengthens regional stability, ensuring that both militaries remain capable of responding together to future challenges.

Working closely with allies and partners enhances the ability of Pacific Marine to operate as stand-in and crisis response forces contributing to a free and open Indo-Pacific.
