DAVIS-MONTHAN AIR FORCE BASE, Ariz. — The Human Performance Center on base is a valuable resource for Airmen and their families or retirees looking to improve their health and fitness through a focus on daily habits, nutrition and an overall understanding of your individual health.
The center gives participants the tools to build healthier lifestyles by promoting exercise, nutrition, sleep and behavior changes.
“Every month we offer courses and classes around exercise, nutrition, behavior and sleep changes, as well as a cooking class,” said Kasey Brixius, Human Performance Center health promotion and performance dietitian. “We also have the disease management nurses come in and teach classes on having a healthy heart.”
In addition to classes, the Human Performance Center provides individual testing to help participants better understand their personal fitness and health.
“The classes are a large part of what we do, but if an individual has specific goals and wants to get more information on themselves and what their body needs, we offer individual testing as well,” said Brixius. “We have our InBody body composition scales that show how much muscle versus fat you have, metabolic rate testing where you can figure out how much calories you need at absolute rest, and VO2 max testing to help individuals get a better understanding of their peak levels and overall fitness.”
Through education and testing, the Human Performance Center helps the DM community build stronger, healthier Airmen and families.
“That’s what we’re here for, to provide the resources to help people live healthier lives,” said Brixius. “Whether it’s diet related, fitness related or through nicotine cessation and good quality sleep, we help people look at their health from a variety of aspects to live healthier lives.”
