MARINE CORPS AIR STATION MIRAMAR, Calif. (Oct. 1, 2025)—The sight of thousands of people smiling, the roar of aircraft echoing freedom, the sharp scent of jet fuel mingling with buttery popcorn, and the warmth of sunshine on your skin—it has once again been a thrilling time at America’s Air Show.

This year was even bigger and better. As the Marine Corps celebrates 250 years of exceptional warfighting legacy, Marine Corps Air Station Miramar did not disappoint in bringing new performances and demonstrations over the three-day event. The Silent Drill Platoon, consisting of 24 hand-selected infantry Marines, highlighted their rigorous training and excellent endurance and discipline with five performances, making this the first year ever that they performed on the steady grounds of MCAS Miramar’s flight line.

“It was an honor for our Marines to bring the Silent Dill Platoon’s legacy of precision and discipline to Miramar for the first time,” said Captain Ford Higgins, the platoon commander for the Silent Drill Platoon, Alpha Company. “Performing on the flightline during such a historic year for our Corps made this experience especially meaningful.”
Beyond ground-shaking, synchronized footsteps, Miramar also had ground-breaking records with the Marine Air Ground Task Force demonstration. The crowd expected the Marine Corps’ usual outstanding display of joint warfighting capabilities with F-35 C Lightning IIs, F/A-18C Hornets, AH-1Z Vipers, UH-1Y Venoms, CH-53E Super Stallions, KC-130J Super Hercules, MV-22B Ospreys, force reconnaissance Marines from 1st Marine Division, the Helicopter Support Team from 1st Marine Logistics Group, a Joint Light Tactical Vehicle, and an M777 Howitzer artillery cannon—the ultimate show that the Marine Corps is ready to respond to any mission. Then, a strong, warm gust added an unpredicted thrill as the MAGTF demonstration’s Wall of Fire extended beyond 3,300 feet long, shattering the MCAS Miramar historical record.

“The Wall of Fire is more than just heat and flame,” said Chief Warrant Officer 3 Austin Sabin, the Miramar Explosive Ordnance Disposal Officer-in-Charge. “It’s controlled chaos, precision, and trust. For us in EOD, it’s a perfect reminder that behind every blast is the training and teamwork that keep it safe, spectacular, and unforgettable for the crowd.”
Other high-energy performances included the world-renowned Blue Angels, the United States Special Operations Command Parachute Team, the United States Marine Corps Mounted Color Guard, and various other military and civilian aircraft.
While these events were happening, the Marines also challenged attendees to take their battle position. Recruiters with Marine Corps Recruiting Station San Diego allowed anyone who rose to the challenge to participate in their virtual reality pugil stick battle. With quick decision-making skills and aggressive actions, people of all ages got a glimpse of what it takes to overcome fear and perfect the skills that Marines have proven successful in battle.

Starting more than 70 years ago, America’s Air Show has been a highly anticipated event in San Diego. Working year-round between demanding training evolutions and real-world deployments, the men and women of MCAS Miramar clearly exhibit a dedication to the safety and security of its neighbors and the nation overall. They continuously work alongside the community with unparalleled professionalism and enthusiasm, crediting the installation’s success to the relationships they have with local entities.

“This show is about more than the aircraft you’ll see in the sky,” said Colonel R. Erik Herrmann, Commanding Officer of MCAS Miramar. “It’s about the bond we share with the San Diego community. For decades, Miramar and San Diego have grown together. You have welcomed our service members and their families as neighbors, supported them through deployments, and shown unwavering pride in their service. That kind of support is the foundation that allows us to do our mission every day.”

People, planes, and power led the charge for a successful event this year, and as over 350 thousand people wind down from experiencing the record-breaking, show-stopping, celebration-filled weekend, you can see why this truly is America’s Air Show and why the Marine Corps proudly celebrates 250 years of esteemed legacy.
