ROYAL AIR FORCE MILDENHALL, England — More than 500 members of the tri-base community participated in the POW/MIA Remembrance Week, honoring the nation’s prisoners of war and those missing in action by riding, rucking and remembering.
The service members united in solemn remembrance on Sept. 15, when 38 motorcycle riders from RAF Mildenhall, RAF Lakenheath and RAF Feltwell joined together for the Rolling Thunder Memorial Ride.
Marking the start of the remembrance week, the riders departed from RAF Mildenhall after conducting safety checks and reviewing ride details with Staff Sgt. Justin S. Bosch of the 100th Civil Engineer Squadron, carrying the POW/MIA flag at the lead, the group set out on a commemorative route.
The ride included three ceremonial wreath-layings: at RAF Mildenhall by Col. Steven S. Byrum, 100th Air Refueling Wing commander; at the Cambridge American Cemetery by Senior Airman Cody J. Mott, and at Liberty Park’s “Lest We Forget” wall at RAF Lakenheath by Staff Sgt. Desiree S. Walker.
“This ride is a visible reminder that we have not forgotten those who never made it home,” said Tech. Sgt. Francisca Holloway-Smith, 48th Maintenance Group F-35 loading standardization crew member and event organizer. “Our commitment is to honor their memory and stand with the families who still wait for answers.”
The week of remembrance continued with a 24-hour Ruck/Run/Walk at RAF Lakenheath, where Airmen, families and community members carried the tribute forward. Step by step, participants honored POW/MIA service members, symbolizing the enduring promise to account for those who remain missing.
