FORT KNOX, Ky. – The remains of U.S. Army Sgt. George M. Barbiere, 23, of Hicksville, New York, killed during the Korean War, will be interred Oct. 3 in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia. Everly-Wheatley Funeral Home will coordinate graveside services preceding the interment.

Barbiere was assigned to Service Company, 32nd Infantry Regiment, 7th Infantry Division. He was reported missing in action Dec. 2, 1950 near Twigae, North Korea. Lacking evidence of continued survival, the U.S. Army issued a presumptive finding of death of Dec. 31, 1953.

The Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency accounted for Barbiere on Feb. 26, 2025.
