U.S. CENTRAL COMMAND AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY – U.S. and Royal Saudi Air Force service members marked a milestone in bilateral cooperation between the 378th Expeditionary Force Support Squadron, 378th Air Expeditionary Wing Host Nation Coordination Cell and RSAF Sports and Athletics Department. This bilateral cooperation culminated in a ceremony commemorating a facility use agreement between the U.S. and RSAF allowing U.S. service members assigned to the 378th AEW to use an RSAF owned indoor swimming facility and turf soccer field, within the U.S. Central Command area of responsibility, July 20, 2025.
The ceremony culminated after months of coordination and planning. The 378th Expeditionary Medical Squadron bioenvironmental engineer team conducted routine water testing, while the 378th AEW Safety team performed site assessments to ensure the facilities were safe for all U.S. service members. Efforts were supported by the RSAF Sports and Athletics Department commander, who worked alongside the 378th EFSS and 378th AEW HNCC to make the facility accessible.
Underscoring the strategic importance of fitness, wellness and cultural integration between the U.S. and RSAF, this collaboration strengthens not only bodies, but relationships.
“The relationships built by training together and communicating help establish a rapport to accomplish bigger and better objectives,” said U.S. Air Force Capt. Charles Boynton, 378th AEW HNCC director. “It all plays a part in establishing better access, basing and overflight at the local level, paying dividends later when the opportunity to collaborate operationally arises.”
Every lap swum and every goal scored directly fuels mission readiness and operational success.
“Working with the host nation demonstrated their appreciation for our presence, love of community and the overall mission,” said U.S. Air Force Col. Shannan Carter, 378th EFSS commander. “These interactions of partner nation integration cultivate mutual understanding and respect, laying the groundwork for enduring cooperation in addressing shared challenges and advancing common interests while diversifying recreational options for U.S. service members at the 378th AEW.”
