DAVIS-MONTHAN AIR FORCE BASE, Ariz. – Lt. Col. Mark Fraser took command of the 305th RQS during a change of command ceremony here Sept. 19, 2025.
The change of command is a military tradition that formally transfers responsibility and authority from one officer to another in front of unit members and leadership, symbolized through the passing of a guidon.
Fraser commissioned in 2008 after graduating from the U.S. Air Force Academy and earned his wings at Fort Rucker, Alabama, in April 2010. Since then, he has served in multiple operational positions, including weapons officer roles at the squadron, group and wing levels. He has deployed in support of Operations Odyssey Dawn, Unified Protector, Enduring Freedom and Inherent Resolve. He has flown more than 230 combat missions and logged over 2,500 flight hours.
Prior to assuming command, Fraser served as the chief of weapons and tactics for the 305th RQS.
“Under my command, the 305th Rescue Squadron will focus on expanding how we support the joint force. Through innovation, disciplined training and the dedication of our Airmen, we will enhance our effectiveness in the battlespace and strengthen our combat search and rescue capabilities,” said Fraser.
The 305th RQS is a geographically separated unit of the 920th Rescue Wing, located at Davis-Monthan AFB. The 920th RQW is Air Force Reserve Command’s only combat search and rescue wing, whose mission is to plan, lead and conduct military rescue operations and missions to deny competitors and adversaries exploitation of isolated personnel.
