    Navy Supply Corps School

NEWPORT, R.I. — The Navy Supply Corps School (NSCS) recently had the privilege of welcoming to the schoolhouse Royal Navy Commander Gordon Clark, a staff officer (N1/N4) at the British Embassy in Washington, D.C. His visit wasn’t only a tour – it was a professional engagement focused on exchanging ideas, strengthening partnerships and enhancing logistics and supply officer training programs.

During his visit, Cmdr. Clark met with NSCS leadership, toured classrooms, engaged in discussions with staff on how both navies can continue to develop supply officers who are well-prepared to meet the logistical and leadership challenges of today’s fleet.

The exchange came at a pivotal time for NSCS. The Royal Navy recently completed a full curriculum overhaul, and the Navy Supply Corps School is accelerating its own revamp of the Basic Qualification Course (BQC). Cmdr. Clark provided insight into the Royal Navy’s process of implementation, offering lessons learned and practical solutions to challenges similar to those currently faced by NSCS.

“It was a privilege to visit the Navy Supply Corps School and share ideas with our U.S. Navy counterparts. Having recently completed our own curriculum overhaul in the Royal Navy, I was glad to exchange lessons learned and offer insights into the process. Having been the closest of allies for many decades, these conversations come naturally to us and are invaluable in helping both of our supply communities prepare officers who can meet the evolving demands of modern naval operations,” said Cmdr. Clark, reflecting on the importance of collaboration between the U.S. Navy and the Royal Navy in the area of supply and logistics training.

The visit provided a valuable opportunity for open dialogue on curriculum design, instructional methods, and the evolving requirements of naval logistics. Both navies can benefit from understanding each other’s approaches to training, which ultimately strengthens interoperability in joint operations with our allies and partners.

“We are grateful to Cmdr. Clark for taking the time to visit and share the Royal Navy’s perspective. As we gain momentum in our own curriculum overhaul here at NSCS, it is extremely helpful to learn from the Royal Navy’s experiences. This exchange not only helps us address challenges more effectively but also strengthens the bond between our two navies,” said Captain T. Richie Jenkins, commanding officer of NSCS.

Beyond the exchange of professional insights, the visit also reinforced the strong relationship between the U.S. Navy and the Royal Navy. By working together, the two services ensure their supply communities remain agile, innovative, and ready to support operational success across the globe.
