Story by Airman 1st Class Joseph Maye

    36th Wing

ANDERSEN AIR FORCE BASE, Guam - Wing Airman Leadership School students learned the basics of airfield damage repair and rappelling skills at Andersen Air Force Base, Guam, Sept. 15, 2025.

The training emphasized the importance of developing mission-ready Airmen while demonstrating the 36th Wing’s commitment to preparing leaders for agile combat employment operations.

“The benefit for our students is they get to see what these squadrons do and then go after mission-ready Airman [initiatives],” said U.S. Air Force Master Sgt. Vianney Hocog, 36th Force Support Squadron ALS commandant. “The knowledge and skills gained from seeing different fields adds more tools in their toolbelt.”

Over the course of five hours, Airmen familiarized themselves with heavy equipment operations while performing a crushed stone crater repair and learned how to rappel off a vertical slope.

Created by Tech. Sgt. Audrey Naputi, former 36th Wing ALS instructor, the Squadron Sponsor Program’s initial intent was to highlight each squadron’s capabilities to show how the 36th Wing operates as a unified team.

With assistance from Tech. Sgt. Amber Williams, ALS instructor and Staff Sgt. Russel Morris, ALS instructor, the program incorporated Mission Ready Airmen to ensure operational readiness through various skill sets.

“Every Airman is in the fight and can be called to execute tasks outside their Air Force Specialty Code scope to ensure we win,” said Senior Master Sgt. Caleb Schauder, 554th Rapid Engineer Deployable Heavy Operational Repair Squadron Engineer Squadron Operations flight chief. “As front-line supervisors, they need to be prepared to lead in any ACE environment.”

ALS Class 25-F is set to graduate Sept. 25, 2025.
