    139th Airlift Wing

The 139th Airlift Wing successfully completed the generate phase of its Combat Readiness Inspection (CRI) Sept. 12, 2025, showcasing the wing’s ability to mass deploy personnel and equipment on short notice in a contested, degraded, and operationally limited environment.

During the inspection, approximately 250 Airmen were processed through the Personnel Deployment Function (PDF), while the Cargo Deployment Function (CDF) managed 93 short tons of cargo. Of that, 38 short tons were loaded onto four aircraft, validating the wing’s capability to rapidly move people and equipment.

Personnel, medical, legal, chaplain, and family readiness units coordinated to ensure a smooth PDF, supported by Unit Deployment Managers, while supply, aerial port, operations, and maintenance had roles in the CDF.

“It provides us with a non-biased, third-party perspective to our processes,” said Capt. Meredith Barnette, plans officer for the 139th Airlift Wing. “An outside entity can provide us with feedback for improvements that we may not have noted.”

While six AMC inspectors conducted the inspection, the January employ and sustain phases will involve many more evaluators. Airmen will wear chemical protection gear and execute operations in a realistic wartime environment, testing the wing’s readiness under pressure.

Barnette said AMC inspectors bring a critical eye to ensure the unit meets current standards and help identify areas for improvement.

While inspections of this magnitude are always challenging, the wing’s performance highlighted the dedication and professionalism of its members.

“As a guard unit we only come together as a team roughly 24 days per year,” said Barnette. “Keeping our members spun up and being able to execute the mission on this kind of scale and in a time crunch speaks volumes to our units. Everyone brought an upbeat attitude and knocked it out of the park.”

The CRI provides external validation that the 139th remains ready, relevant, and resilient to meet the demands of the mission.
