MARINE CORPS RECRUIT DEPOT SAN DIEGO, CALIF. – 1st Sgt. Anthony Oliveira, the company first sergeant for Service Company, Headquarters and Service Battalion, Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, was recognized as the 2025 Marine Corps Expeditionary Warfare Staff Non-Commissioned Officer of the Year during the 2025 Marine Corps Association Combat Development Awards Dinner at Marine Corps Base Quantico, Virginia on August 27, 2025.

The award is presented to two Marines and two Sailors each year whose exceptional performance in expeditionary warfare assignments significantly influences the future of naval expeditionary warfare and amphibious capabilities, doctrine and training through innovation, leadership, and teamwork.

From July 2022 to March 2025, Oliveira served as the amphibious raid operations chief at Expeditionary Warfare Training Group – Pacific. During that time, he oversaw and conducted multiple amphibious training exercises including the Scouts Swimmer Course, Coxswain Skill Course (CRRC), Maritime Navigation Course, Infantry Company Small Boat Raid Course (ICSBR) and the Marine Corps

Instructor of Water Survival Course (MCIWS).

One of his most notable contributions was leading the Small Boat Symposium, where Oliveira and his team were dedicated to teaching doctrine, tactics and techniques of naval expeditionary warfare and amphibious operations. Despite limited guidance They created complex operational orders that enhanced the readiness of Navy, Marine Corps, and allied personnel to project military power from the sea in support of operational commanders.

In addition to the symposium, Oliveira participated in multiple mobile training teams (MTT) including amphibious training with the Columbian Marine Corps; Ukrainian 1st Battalion International Legion in Scotland; the U.S. Army, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division in Hawaii; and the French Foreign Legion.

Oliveira expressed gratitude upon receiving the award, stating:

“The award is a culmination of the hard work and dedication the team at the Amphibious Raid section has put forth over the past couple years. I don’t claim this award for myself, but I am grateful for my team and the experiences and challenges we endured together.”

Oliveira received the award for exceptional performance during his time at Expeditionary Warfare Training Group – Pacific and is continuing his military career serving as the company first sergeant for Service Company, Headquarters and Service Battalion, Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego.
