Marine Corps Launches New Officer Selection Team in Tampa

    TAMPA, FLORIDA, UNITED STATES

    09.04.2025

    Story by Cpl. Jaylen Davis

    6th Marine Corps District

This marks an important step in expanding Marine Corps recruiting efforts across the state. OST Tampa is now the fifth Officer Selection Station in Florida and is part of the 6th Marine Corps District, which covers the southeastern United States.
The new team was created as part of a larger plan to improve how the Marine Corps finds and recruits future officers. This plan is based on updated population data, which helps the Marine Corps focus on areas with more eligible young people. Tampa was chosen because of its growing population and strong community support.
To celebrate the launch, OST Tampa held an activation ceremony at the Tampa Bay Chamber of Commerce. Local leaders, Marines, and community members attended the event. U.S. Marine Corps Capt. Alyshia Crawford, the Officer Selection Officer (OSO) in charge of the new team, gave a speech during the ceremony.
“Leading Officer Selection Team Tampa as its OSO is a role I embrace with great pride and responsibility,” said Crawford. "Our recruiting personnel have maintained a strong presence within the Tampa community, diligently identifying exceptional young individuals who demonstrate both the aspiration and the potential to earn the distinguished title of United States Marine. We remain committed to advancing these efforts and further enhancing our outreach throughout central Florida.”
OST Tampa will focus on finding talented and motivated individuals who want to become Marine Corps officers. Recruiters will work closely with law schools, colleges, and community organizations to meet young people who are interested in serving their country.
This new team gives the Marine Corps a stronger presence in central Florida and helps make sure that more future leaders have the chance to join one of the most respected military branches in the world.
