REDSTONE ARSENAL, Ala. -- Operation Patriot Press 2025, a large-scale logistical training exercise spanning nearly a year, concluded this month, demonstrating a significant win for total Army collaboration and cost-effective training.
OPP is an annual, large-scale exercise designed to spotlight and test the total force integration of the Army Reserve, National Guard, and active-duty components in realistic training situations. The exercise is overseen by Army Materiel Command, and this year was led by the Indiana Army National Guard’s 38th Division Sustainment Brigade in Kokomo, Indiana. It involved more than 22 units from the active Army, the Reserve, and National Guard, operating across 10 states and one location in Japan from November 2024 through September 2025.
“OPP is a prime example of how we can leverage the capabilities of the total Army to support AMC’s mission,” said Maj. Gen. Terry Grisham, assistant AMC deputy commanding general for national guard affairs. “This operation not only provided valuable real-world training for our Soldiers but also delivered significant cost savings and increase readiness across the sustainment enterprise.”
The operation’s core objective was to provide realistic training opportunities for service members while simultaneously supporting the broader Army sustainment enterprise. OPP facilitated collaboration between military personnel and their civilian counterparts who routinely handle logistical challenges.
“OPP is an invaluable opportunity for units across all three Army components to work directly with civilian contractors, to practice real-world missions to prepare for wartime logistical exercises.” said 1st Lt. Cole George, Officer in Charge and Finance Officer for OPP, he coordinated the logistical complexities of the exercise. “The exercise also allows the supporting Sustainment Brigade the opportunity to exercise mission command and deepen their knowledge of the Military Decision Making Process.”
Working closely with AMC, the 38th Division Sustainment Brigade lead initial, mid, and final planning conferences, navigated budgetary constraints to foster coordination among participants and trained 651 service members.
The oversight and planning resulted in an estimated $1.2 million in cost avoidance, directly benefiting four AMC entities- Joint Munitions Command, Army Medical Logistics Command, Tank-Automotive and Armaments Command, and Army Contracting Command.
SFC Debbie Klein, the Non-Commissioned Officer in Charge, played a critical role in coordinating logistical and personnel movements. She leveraged her operational expertise to assist with orders production, coordinate lodging for planning conferences, and maintain constant communication with units via Joint Battle Command-Platform systems.
“Her proactive Pre-Deployment Site Surveys, in collaboration with depot operations leads, were vital to ensuring mission success,” said George.
OPP stands as a model for future inter-component training exercises, demonstrating the power of collaboration and innovative logistical planning.
