RICKENBACKER AIR NATIONAL GUARD BASE, Ohio -- Lt. Col. Sean-Michael Kelly took command of the 121st Air Refueling Wing Civil Engineering Squadron (CES) from Lt. Col. Corey Thobe during a change of command ceremony held at Rickenbacker Air National Guard Base, Ohio, Sept. 6, 2025.

Kelly comes to the 121st Air Refueling Wing from the 14th Civil Engineering Squadron at Columbus Air Force Base in Mississippi, where he most recently served as the 14th Civil Engineering Squadron commander.

“Our patch says ‘Ready, Resilient, Reliable’ and I think it perfectly reflects what we bring as engineers, both organizationally and individually, and it reflects what I’ve seen and heard so far from our men and women at the 121st,” said Kelly. “I’m so excited to be the new commander and to wear that patch as well, as we continue to be Ready, Resilient and Reliable.”

Lt. Col. John Haley, Mission Support Group commander, 121st Air Refueling Wing, presided over the ceremony, delivering his remarks on the considerable experience and accomplishments of both the outgoing and incoming CES commanders.

“Lt. Col. Thobe has done an incredible job and we’re so thankful to his family for sharing him with us,” said Haley. “Lt. Col. Kelly comes with a distinguished background and years of experience and education. This squadron is in great hands.”

Thobe departs CES after having served 25 years in the Ohio Air National Guard in multiple roles.

“I’ve enjoyed the mission, but it’s the people I’ll miss the most,” said Thobe. “Thanks to both my family and my extended Guard family for their support.”
