ALMAZA AIR BASE, EGYPT – U.S. Air Force Survival, Evasion, Resistance and Escape specialists, assigned to the Joint Personnel Recovery Center, took part in a combat search and rescue subject matter expert exchange with service members from partner nations during BRIGHT STAR 25 at Almaza Air Base, Egypt, Aug. 30-31, 2025.
During a two-day CSAR SME exchange with Egyptian Air Force and Egyptian Navy service members, U.S. Air Force SERE specialists demonstrated tactical skills, techniques and procedures and received a tour of the Egyptian facilities and a demonstration of their capabilities.
“It was validating to learn that they have a lot of the same equipment as our teams," said one SERE instructor. “While the exact tool might not be in their load out, their knowledge of their equipment seemed extensive enough to accomplish any task. Being able to tailor the tools and equipment you have on hand to accomplish the mission no matter what is one of the most important things [U.S. Air Force] SERE specialists teach.”
The integration of SERE specialists within BRIGHT STAR 25 underscores the Air Force's commitment to building resilient, capable partnerships. Through joint CSAR exchanges and combined operational planning, partner nations gain confidence in their ability to execute high-intensity operations together, reinforcing U.S. Central Command’s mission of sustaining regional stability through partnership.
“Being able to participate in partnership opportunities like this allows us to train personnel recovery actions and communication techniques together,” said another SERE instructor. “That reinforces the predictability of isolated personnel actions for recovery forces and standardizes multinational recovery procedures.”
The U.S. Air Force presence in Egypt demonstrated how specialized skills, such as those provided by SERE specialists, support the broader success of USCENTCOM’s missions. By training side-by-side with partner nations, U.S. forces reinforce interoperability and strengthen collective readiness across the region.
“Working with U.S. Forces enhances our search and rescue capabilities through advanced technology, training and rapid response support,” said Egyptian Navy Commander Mohammed Mahmoud, Search and Rescue team commander. “This cooperation strengthens mission effectiveness, saves lives and ensures regional security.”
