CAMP LEATHERNECK, Afghanistan -- A branch of the Kabul Bank, the only bank in Nimruz province, officially opened in Delaram District, Afghanistan, Aug. 10.
The Afghan government-funded bank will provide banking services for local residents and Afghan National Security Forces in the Delaram area.
An existing building was identified and offered to the Bank of Kabul due to its proximity to the center of the province.
“Delaram is a hub and centrally located for people to travel to,” said Maj. Tom Espinosa, civil affairs detachment commander, Regimental Combat Team 2. “That’s what is great about Delaram.”
The bank has the capabilities to do standard banking transactions including money transfers, wire transfers, debit card transactions and will have a Western Union. The bank will also employ 10 Afghans to run the branch six days a week.
