    Arctic Edge 2025

JOINT BASE ELMENDORF-RICHARDSON, Alaska – Antarctica is a continent surrounded by ocean, governed by the Antarctic Treaty which prohibits military activity for anything other than scientific research or logistics. However, its extreme climate presents similar environmental challenges to those in the Arctic, making cold-weather training highly transferable.

“Exercises [like AE25] prepare us for operations in dynamic and contested areas by operating in all environments, specifically the cold-weather regions,” said the Special Operations Advisor Team (SOAT) mission commander. “Our teams focus on advising and training with our South American partners primarily on cold-weather medicine and aircraft maintenance techniques.”

For Argentina, a nation with a peaceful, yet strong, logistical and scientific presence in Antarctica, participation in Arctic training supports their own mission capabilities in the region. Observing AE25 allows Argentine SOF to share valued insight into cold-weather operations, which is relevant to both Arctic cooperation and Antarctic sustainment.

ARCTIC EDGE allows U.S. forces to gather crucial lessons learned from the combatant command level down to the tactical units and ensures sustained improvement in Arctic capabilities.

“Operating in the Arctic presents unique challenges that need specialized training, equipment, and experience,” said the SOAT team sergeant. “We’re able demonstrate our versatility and competence by conducting operations and advisory missions around the world.”

As AE25 continues to evolve, it highlights the enduring commitment of the U.S. and its allies to maintain operational excellence in one of the world's most strategically significant regions. The 492nd SOW SOAT has proven itself as a capable and reliable partner, ready to support both allied training and real-world operations. El más dedicado gana– The most dedicated wins.
