The 190th ARW Civil Engineer Squadron Fire Department took center stage at the 2025 Air National Guard Fire Chiefs Association Awards Banquet, held Aug. 1 in Reno, Nevada, earning a series of top honors that reflect the unit’s excellence in leadership, service, and training.
The unit was named Fire Department of the Year (Small) and the team was recognized for its operational strength, mission readiness, and unwavering commitment to protecting both base personnel and the broader community.
Senior Master Sgt. Colton Hoffman led the charge with a dual victory, earning Military Firefighter of the Year for his leadership and professionalism, and Fire Services Instructor of the Year for his pivotal role in developing the next generation of Air National Guard firefighters through training and mentorship.
Airman 1st Class Colter Whitten was awarded the prestigious ANGFCA Scholarship, for his academic excellence and dedication to growth in both military service and education.
“These awards signify the remarkable talent and dedication within the 190 ARW/CES Fire Department,” said Chief Master Sgt. Lonnie Bass, squadron chief, 190th Civil Engineer Squadron. “We are proud of our firefighters and grateful for their steadfast commitment to safeguarding our base and community.”
Col. Noah Diehl, commander, 190th Mission Support Group, praised the department’s accomplishment, calling it the result of relentless teamwork and high standards.
"This achievement is the result of the team's collective efforts to be the best fire department in support of outstanding Airmen, the flying mission, base facilities, and the surrounding communities,” said Diehl. “They should be proud to be part of a unit committed to innovation, professional training, and leadership development. Their dedication has earned this recognition—thank you for continuing to lead the way!"
The ANG Fire Chiefs Association Awards celebrate the individuals and departments whose outstanding performance strengthens fire protection and emergency response across the nation. This year, the 190th ARW proved they’re not just meeting the standard—they’re setting it.
