    134th Air Refueling Wing

MCGHEE TYSON AIR NATIONAL GUARD BASE, Tenn. – U.S. Air National Guard Colonel Jaison T. Brown assumed command of the 134th Medical Group during a change of command ceremony at McGhee Tyson Air National Guard Base, Louisville, Tenn., on Aug. 2, 2025.

Col. Brown assumed command from outgoing commander Col. Lisa Simmons, who was recognized for her leadership and dedication during her time leading the medical group. The ceremony marked a transition in leadership for a unit vital to supporting the medical readiness of more than 1,100 Airmen assigned to the 134th Air Refueling Wing.

Simmons, now serving as the deputy commander of the 134th Air Refueling Wing, was commended for her focus on enhancing medical readiness. Under her leadership, the MDG conducted joint field exercises, tactical combat casualty care training, and integrated CBRNE operations with state and NATO partners.

“I want to say thank you to all the Airmen of the medical group, past and present, for helping me lead such incredible people," said Simmons. “I know that our culture, professionalism, and impact on our fellow Airmen will continue to be world class under Col. Brown’s command.”

Brown brings over three decades of military experience to his new role, beginning his career in 1990 as a Medical Logistics Technician in the active-duty Air Force. Since joining the Tennessee Air National Guard in 1995, he has served in multiple key roles within the 134th MDG, including First Sergeant, Human Resources Advisor, Health Services Administrator, Medical Logistics Officer, Medical Readiness Officer, and most recently, Executive Officer to the 134th MDG Commander.

In 2025, Brown played a pivotal role in supporting the wing’s Nuclear Operations Exercise (NORE) and its first Combat Readiness Exercise (CRE), ensuring full medical integration into operational objectives. His selection as commander reflects his long-standing commitment to mission readiness and team development within the 134th MDG.

Under Col. Brown’s leadership, the 134th MDG is poised to continue building on that foundation.

“Our culture will be that of excellence in all we do for our fellow Airmen,” Brown said. “I cannot wait to be a part of the next generation of medical Airmen and see what you will accomplish.”

The 134th Medical Group operates strategically significant medical treatment facilities in support of peacetime and contingency operations across East Tennessee and partner states in Europe. The unit plays a critical role in sustaining the operational readiness of the Tennessee Air National Guard both at home and abroad.
