“This exercise is part of our large contribution to maintain and reinforce peace and stability in the region,” said Royal Canadian Air Force Lt. Col. Cole McGregor, Air Task Force Commander for Talisman Sabre 25. ”We are also focused on exercising and improving the interoperability we have between our nation and all of our partners. “
Canada deployed more than 600 military personnel from the Canadian Army, Operation Special Forces Command, Armed Forces Cyber Command, Royal Canadian Navy, and the Royal Canadian Air Force - the most they've ever sent to participate in Talisman Sabre.
Canada’s integration efforts extend beyond just one operational level. There are teams integrated across a wide spectrum, ranging from combined command functions to frontline units like construction engineers.
Some key activities conducted are integrated maintenance and crewing operations with the Royal Canadian Air Force C-17 fleet, which has cross accreditation of maintenance qualifications enabling allies to perform tasks on each other’s aircraft. In addition, aeromedical evacuation teams were integrated with medical personnel from Australia, Canada, and the United States.
“This was my first time working with the Canadian Air Force, and it was a valuable experience to learn about their operations in a deployed environment”, said U.S. Air Force Lt. Col. Ryan Freaney, Talisman Sabre 25 Air Response Cell Chief. “Our Canadian counterparts are true professionals and dedicated to making every mission a success.”
Talisman Sabre 25 is a large-scale, bilateral military exercise between Australia and the U.S. which advances a free and open Indo-Pacific by strengthening relationships and interoperability among key allies and enhances our collective capabilities to respond to a wide array of potential security concerns. This year marks the eleventh iteration of the exercise.
