FORT IRWIN, Calif. – A Soldier with 53rd Infantry Brigade Combat Team is organizing and making mail deliveries among thousands of Florida Army National Guard Soldiers participating in a pre-deployment training exercise from July through August 2025 at the National Training Center in Fort Irwin, California.

Her mail delivery coverage area spans approximately 800 square miles for over 4,000 Soldiers, who are fully immersed in intense simulated combat missions.

Florida Army National Guard Capt. Lauren Dickerson, an adjutant general officer with 53rd Brigade Support Battalion, 53rd Infantry Brigade Combat Team, has been leading the way in communications for Soldiers during this warfighting scenario.

“I really enjoy playing a role in helping Soldiers have a better experience during their military career,” said Dickerson.

“I do this by helping educate them on the process of sending mail because it’s important to have the contact and support of loved ones when you’re so far away,” said Dickerson.

Soldiers get their mail through a military mailing system that gets filtered to her as a certified mail carrier, and she hand delivers it.

Dickerson has been delivering mail to Soldiers from their loved ones and making sure the communication line between them and their families stays open.

“Honestly, it’s one of the most exciting parts,” said Dickerson. “Meeting the Soldiers and seeing the smiles on their faces as they receive mail from family members they haven’t spoken to in a while.”

In providing this mail service, Dickerson believes it has truly tested her ability to know how far she can go as a Soldier and care for others while in the extreme heat that comes with training in the Mojave Desert.

Dickerson expressed a heartfelt devotion for Soldiers that far exceeds her mail delivery duties. For her, it’s about total Soldier care.

“I’ve helped countless Soldiers,” said Dickerson, “directing them to resources and guiding them through the process of finding a happier mindset.”
