    2nd Marine Logistics Group

U.S. Marine Corps Cpl. Tavon Northern, a motor vehicle operator with 2nd Distribution Support Battalion, Combat Logistics Regiment 2, 2nd Marine Logistics Group, was selected as the 2nd MLG Warrior of the Week.

According to Northern’s command, he routinely demonstrates exceptional commitment to his fellow Marines by stepping forward to support critical missions within the largest motor pool in II Marine Expeditionary Force. Serving as the company guide for Ground Distribution Company, 2nd DSB, his efforts to ensure his Marines are technically and tactically trained exemplifies the standards expected of a Marine leader.

As the company guide, Northern serves as the primary mentor and liaison between company leadership and his Marines, facilitating the flow of information and monitoring individual accountability while supporting the professional development of each Marine.

“When you have a Marine who is a guide, they are a representation of the company as a whole. He was chosen because of his leadership quality and [military occupational specialty] proficiency,” stated Staff Sgt. Kendall Ihejirika, section leader with 2nd DSB, CLR-2, 2nd MLG.

In addition to his primary duties as the guide, Northern fulfills the role of training noncommissioned officer-in-charge, collaborating closely with the 2nd DSB command to ensure the operational readiness and ability to deploy of 67 Marines.

“As the training NCO, he displays his dedication to not only making sure the Marines are trained to the standard, but that they excel in all things in their [military occupational specialty] and as United States Marines,” said Ihejirika.

Northern mentioned how important it is to ensure that he and his Marines are constantly training and learning from their mistakes. “It’s ok to mess up,” said Northern. “You mess up now, you make the corrections, so you don’t mess up in combat or a real-life scenario when you need it.”

Northern liaises with the platoon leadership to evaluate, schedule, and execute training based on the training and readiness standards as set forth by Headquarters Marine Corps.

"I do it for my family and my junior Marines,” said Northern. “It’s not about myself anymore."

Each week, 2nd MLG recognizes one outstanding Marine or Sailor who goes above and beyond in their duties and embodies the qualities of an outstanding service member. Northern is a native of Albany, Georgia.
