Airmen from the 111th Attack Wing joined fellow service members from the U.S. Army, Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard for a day of recognition, camaraderie, and connection with one of the NFL’s most storied franchises.
“It was truly a team effort,” said Bittina Schissler, center operations coordinator for the USO of Delaware. “Working with the Eagles organization, along with our USO partners in New Jersey and Pennsylvania, we were able to secure tickets, coordinate logistics, and ensure service members from every branch across three states were represented”.
The event, held in partnership with the USO of Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware, offered military guests sideline access during training camp, special camouflage-themed practice jerseys, and autograph sessions with players.
“It’s an incredible feeling to be recognized in this way,” said Tech Sgt. Tariq Fladger , a Production recruiter for the Pennsylvania Air National Guard. “Being here with my fellow service members and seeing the appreciation from the Eagles means a lot.”
Planning and coordination for the event involved multiple military units and support organizations. USO coordinators from multiple different offices worked to ensure representation across active-duty, Reserve, and National Guard components.
“The USO teams in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware did a phenomenal job bringing us all together,” said Fladger . “This kind of community engagement reminds us that our service is seen, valued, and appreciated.”
Military families were also invited to attend the event, sharing in the celebration and gaining a behind-the-scenes look at the Eagles' training process.
“My kids got to meet players they’ve only seen on TV,” said Fladger, who brought his family. “We’ll be talking about this day for years to come.”
Events like Military Appreciation Day play a key role in strengthening ties between the military and the local community. For Guardsmen in particular, whose lives are deeply connected to their hometowns and states, that recognition resonates deeply.
“As an Air National Guard recruiter, I serve both my country and my community,” said Fladger. “Being honored in a place like this, right in our own backyard, makes it that much more special.”
