3rd Special Forces Group (Airborne) and the Botswana Defense Force (BDF) Special Forces Regiment (SFR) recently completed a Joint Combined Exchange Training (JCET) in June 2025, strengthening Botswana's ability to counter threats effectively and reinforcing the close security partnership between the two nations.

The multi-week JCET focused on interoperability and enhancing critical skills essential for regional stability. The training sharpened the BDF SFR’s operational capabilities, further solidifying its reputation as a reliable security force in southern Africa.

"This JCET enhanced our detachment's ability to work and train alongside the BDF," said the commander from the 3rd SFG(A). "It provided a valuable opportunity for all team members to hone individual skills and enhance their instructional and leadership abilities."

The program included advanced tactical training encompassing small-unit tactics, marksmanship, leadership development, and specialized field operations. These exercises prepare both forces to respond effectively to security challenges ranging from transnational crime to violent extremism.

"This training provided a unique opportunity for U.S. Special Forces and the BDF SFR to work and learn together," the 3rd SFG(A) commander added. "The skills developed during the JCET will significantly increase both partners' capabilities."

The BDF SFR, renowned for its contributions to regional peace and stability, continues to demonstrate its commitment to safeguarding Botswana's sovereignty and broader regional security. The BDF SFR's expertise, particularly in tracking and counter-tracking techniques gleaned from operational experience, proved invaluable.

This JCET underscores the U.S. commitment to collaborating with key partners like Botswana to develop resilient and capable forces prepared for evolving security challenges. As threats grow more complex, enduring partnerships like this one remain crucial for maintaining peace and stability throughout the region.
