U.S. and Iraqi soldiers killed several terrorists and found an enemy weapons cache during separate operations in Baghdad yesterday, Multinational Force Iraq officials reported.

In other news, two U.S. soldiers died yesterday as a result of improvised explosive device attacks. One soldier, with the 49th Military Police Brigade, was killed near Sadr City in northeast Baghdad. The other soldier, assigned to Multinational Division, died in southern Baghdad. Both soldiers' names are being withheld until their families are notified.

During operations yesterday, Iraqi army and Multinational Division Baghdad soldiers killed four terrorists, wounded two, and detained five people during a sweep in Adhamiyah, a district in northern Baghdad.

Soldiers from the 2nd Battalion, 6th Iraqi Army Division, and U.S. advisors from 4th Battalion, 320th Field Artillery Military Transition Team, were fired upon when they were conducting a search for an enemy weapons cache, officials said.

Terrorists in the area engaged Iraqi security and coalition forces with rocket-propelled grenades and small-arms fire. In the ensuing firefight, four terrorists were killed and two were wounded. Five other people were detained.

Two Iraqi army soldiers were wounded in the engagement.

The two wounded terrorists were taken to a medical facility for treatment along with the wounded Iraqi army soldiers.

The weapons cache was found to be empty, officials reported.

The same day, soldiers from Multinational Division Baghdad's 2nd Battalion, 506th Infantry Regiment, working with the 4th Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, detained three suspected terrorists and found a weapons cache in the Doura district of Baghdad.

The soldiers had found a pistol during a vehicle search. They continued searching and found a secret compartment containing four rocket-propelled grenade rounds, four RPG boosters, a PKC rifle, a fragmentation grenade, 400 rounds of PKC ammunition, an AK-47 rifle with two full magazines of ammunition, a 9mm pistol and 200 7.62mm armor-piercing rounds.

The suspects all produced fake identification and were detained, officials said.
