    Marine Killed in Iraq; DoD Identifies Previous Casualties

    A Marine assigned to Regimental Combat Team 6 died today from wounds suffered during combat in Anbar province, military officials reported, and the Defense Department has identified six earlier casualties.

    The Marine’s name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

    In other news, the Defense Department released the identities of five soldiers and a Marine killed recently supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom.

    -- Army Sgt. 1st Class Keith A. Callahan, 31, of McClure, Pa., died Jan. 24 of wounds suffered when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle south of Baghdad. Callahan was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 325th Airborne Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, N.C.

    -- Army Staff Sgt. Hector Leija, 27, of Houston, died Jan. 24 of wounds suffered during combat operations in Baghdad. Leija was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 23rd Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division (Stryker Brigade Combat Team), Fort Lewis, Wash.

    -- Army Staff Sgt. Jamie D. Wilson, 34, of San Diego, died Jan. 22 from wounds suffered during combat in Karmah, Iraq. Wilson was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 509th Infantry Regiment (Airborne), 4th Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division, Fort Richardson, Alaska.

    -- Army Spc. Brandon L. Stout, 23, of Grand Rapids, Mich., died Jan. 22 of wounds suffered when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle in Baghdad. Stout was assigned to the 46th Military Police Company, Michigan Army National Guard, Kingsford, Mich.

    -- Army Spc. Nicholas P. Brown, 24, of Huber Heights, Ohio, died Jan. 22 in Mosul when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle. Brown was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 7th Cavalry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Bliss, Texas.

    -- Marine Sgt. Michael M. Kashkoush, 24, of Chagrin Falls, Ohio, died Jan. 23 from wounds suffered during combat in Anbar province. Kashkoush was assigned to 3rd Intelligence Battalion, 3rd Marine Expeditionary Force, Okinawa, Japan.
