One U.S. Army soldier assigned to Multinational Force West died today from wounds suffered during combat in Iraq’s Anbar province, officials reported.
The deceased soldier’s name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
In other news, the Defense Department released the identities of three soldiers killed Jan. 27 when an improvised explosive device detonated near their vehicle during convoy operations in Taji, Iraq. They were assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas.
Killed were:
-- Army Cpl. Timothy A. Swanson, 21, of San Antonio, Texas.
-- Army Pfc. Jon B. St. John II, 25, of Neenah, Wis.
-- Army Pfc. David T. Toomalatai, 19, of Long Beach, Calif.
