Four U.S. servicemembers were injured today near Kandahar, Afghanistan, by a suicide bomber driving a vehicle laden with explosives, Combined Forces Command Afghanistan officials reported.
Initial reports attributed the blast to a roadside bomb, but officials said improvised explosive device experts flown to the scene determined a suicide car bomber had been responsible for the blast.
The attack injured four members of a provisional reconstruction team who were on a routine patrol, officials said. No report was available on their condition.
In other news from Afghanistan, an Afghan man riding a bicycle was killed today when he was struck by a U.S. government contractor's fuel truck. The accident happened on Jalalabad Road, outside the Kabul Military Training Center. After the accident, the truck driver turned in to KMTC to report it.
"Our thoughts and prayers go out the family of the victim of this tragic event," said U. S. Army Col. James Yonts, Combined Forces Command Afghanistan public affairs officer. Kabul police are investigating the accident.
