CONTINGENCY OPERATING BASE ADDER, Iraq – The United States Division – South, Division Command Sgt. Maj. Jim Champagne recognized exemplary Soldiers on his trip to Contingency Operating Base Adder while visiting the 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division July 7.

Spc. Sarah Brown, of Reedsburg, Wis., was one of the Soldiers presented with a Command Sergeant Major’s coin for her contributions to the operational management team, in support of the 3rd Brigade Special Troops Battalion, 3rd BCT in southern Iraq.

Brown is currently serving as operation management team reports officer in the 3rd BSTB intelligence section. As the reports officer, Brown ensures that all human intelligence collection teams that fall under the operation management team have the proper tools to write and publish information that they receive.

“Spc. Brown has assisted the human collection team in numerous reports. The time, effort and dedication sets Brown apart, as she aids the human collection teams in getting information to the units efficiently,” said Staff Sgt. Aaron Creasman, of Madrid, Neb.
“Since coming to Company A, Spc. Brown has been an outstanding Soldier. Her work ethic and military bearing stands out to me. She is quite a professional in all aspects. I'm looking forward to seeing her move up to the rank of Sergeant,” said 1st Sgt. Louis Brown III, first sergeant, Company A, 3rd BSTB.

“I was very surprised, I believe many other individuals in the unit deserve recognition but am honored my unit thought I deserved it,” said Brown. “Receiving a coin this early in my first deployment will definitely help me stay motivated for the following months.”

Brown’s family is not new to military life, as her family has a long military lineage. Her grandfather, William Brown, served in the Air Force, while her father, James Brown, served in the Army as an infantryman. Her uncle, Charles Brown, served in the Army’s military police, she said.
