Task Force Liberty soldiers seized a cache of weapons and ammunition near Muqdadiyah in Iraq's Diyala province in an evening raid Sept. 13, military officials reported today.

The cache included a 60 mm mortar system, a sniper rifle, a rocket-propelled grenade launcher and the ammunition for all three systems. Two people were detained in connection with the cache and are being held for questioning, officials said.

Elsewhere in Iraq, coalition aircraft flew 48 close air support and armed reconnaissance sorties Sept. 13 for Operation Iraqi Freedom, including support to coalition troops, infrastructure protection, reconstruction activities, and operations to deter and disrupt terrorist activities, U.S. Central Command Air Forces officials reported. Coalition aircraft also supported Iraqi and coalition ground operations.

U.S. Air Force F-16s, U.S. Navy F/A-18s, and Royal Air Force GR-4s provided close air support to coalition troops near Baghdad and Mosul.

Eleven U.S. Air Force and U.S. Navy intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Iraq. U.S Air Force and Royal Air Force fighter aircraft also performed in a nontraditional ISR role with their electro-optical and infrared sensors.
