Five soldiers will vie for the "Military Idol" title Oct. 22 at 2 p.m. EDT at Fort Gordon, Ga.
The show will be Webcast live on Army Knowledge Online.
Competitors are Staff Sgt. Ron Henry of Fort Eustis, Va.; Sgt. William Glenn, Darmstadt, Germany; Spc. Festus Togbeola, Schweinfurt, Germany; Capt. Ron Carden, Fort Knox, Ky.; and Spc. Ron Sianoya, Wurzburg, Germany.
Viewers should go to www.militaryidols.com to see how and when to connect to watch the one-time Webcast of the final competition in their time zone or part of the world. The winner will be announced Oct. 23 at 2 p.m. EDT. That show also will be available on AKO.
Authorized AKO users include active duty or retired soldiers, Army Reservists and National Guardsmen. Others can get guest accounts if they know the username of an authorized AKO account holder. Those eligible for guest accounts include other servicemembers, ROTC and military academy cadets, civilian employees of other services and military and Cabinet agencies, contractors, and family members of authorized account holders. Military Idol is an Army Morale, Welfare and Recreation program based on Fox network's "American Idol." Each finalist won a local contest on one of 36 Army installations around the world, where competitions ranged from one night to eight weeks.
Leeann Tweeden, hostess of Speed Channel's "NASCAR Nation" and a regular on Fox Sports Network's "The Best Damn Sports Show, Period," will serve as master of ceremonies for the finals.
The judges are Jack L. Tilley, retired sergeant major of the Army; Debra Byrd, vocal coach and arranger for "American Idol"; and country music artist Michael Peterson, best known for "I am a Soldier" and "From Here to Eternity."
The Military Idol will receive $1,000, with $500 going to the runner-up and $250 for the third-place performer.
