    Soldier Dies in Iraq; Earlier Casualty Identified

    A U.S. soldier died in Iraq, and officials identified a soldier who died earlier this week.

    A Task Force Baghdad soldier died from wounds caused by a mortar attack that struck his patrol in southern Baghdad today. The name of the soldier is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

    Defense officials announced the identity of a soldier who was killed Dec. 28 supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom:

    • Army Pfc. George A. Lutz II, 25, of Virginia Beach, Va., died in Fallujah, Iraq, on Dec. 29, when his dismounted patrol was attacked by enemy forces using small-arms fire. Lutz was assigned to the Army's 9th Psychological Operations Battalion, 4th Psychological Operations Group, U.S. Army Civil Affairs and Psychological Operations Command, Fort Bragg, N.C.
