U.S. soldiers on a civil affairs mission this week distributed medical and dental supplies to several Baghdad neighborhoods.

During a mission on the streets of Baghdad, soldiers from the 1st Battalion, 161st Infantry, 81st Brigade Combat Team, distributed toothbrushes, toothpaste and shoes. They also treated nearly 240 Iraqis, mostly women and children, for minor injuries and illnesses. More than 100 soldiers, including an Iraqi National Guard Company took part in the mission.

"All in all it was a good day," said Army Capt. Douglas Baer, medical platoon leader for Task Force 1-161. "The operation went smoothly; it was well-planned and well-executed, and I think we helped out a lot of these people."

Task Force 1-161 is home-based in Kent, Wash., and is attached to the 1st Cavalry Division while in Iraq.
