One Task Force Baghdad soldier was killed and two others injured by a roadside bomb north of the Iraqi capital today, Multinational Force Iraq officials announced.
Also, officials said today a Marine assigned to 1st Marine Expeditionary Force was killed Feb. 5 while conducting security and stability operations in Iraq's north Babil province.
The two wounded soldiers today were evacuated to a military medical treatment facility. The names of the dead are being withheld until their families are notified. Officials were unable to release additional details about the incidents, which are being investigated
Elsewhere in Iraq, coalition and Iraqi troops continued to track down and detain suspected terrorists.
Iraqi security forces captured three suspected terrorists while conducting a cordon-and-search operation in southeast Mosul today. Officials said Iraqi commandos detained the three people, suspected of planting roadside bombs and attacking multinational forces.
They remain in custody, and no Iraqi security force troops were injured, officials said.
Troops from the 1st Brigade, 25th Infantry Division (Stryker Brigade Combat Team), detained 22 people in northern Iraq Feb. 5, officials said.
Members of the 3rd Brigade, 21st Infantry Regiment, detained 13 people suspected of terrorist activities in northern Mosul. Soldiers from the 1st Battalion, 5th Infantry Regiment, detained another nine suspects during cordon- and-search operations in Ninewah province, officials said. Seven of the suspects were captured south of Mosul and two others, east of Tal Afar, officials said.
No coalition injuries were reported during the operations, and the suspects are in custody.
In other activity, officials said Iraqi security forces detained two people suspected of kidnapping the brother of the Mosul chief of police in northern Iraq Feb. 5.
Soldiers from the 102nd Iraqi Army Battalion were working a checkpoint north of Al Hawd when they discovered Abdullah Mohammed Khalif Al-Jaburi, brother of the Mosul chief of police, in the truck of a vehicle being searched. The troops detained the two people in the vehicle and returned Khalif to Mosul.
