Another U.S. soldier faces a general court-martial in connection with abuse of prisoners at the Abu Ghraib prison, military officials announced today at a Baghdad news conference.
Spc. Charles A. Graner will be arraigned May 20 on seven charges, said Army Brig. Gen. Mark Kimmitt, deputy operations director for Combined Joint Task Force 7.
Graner faces trial for conspiracy to maltreat detainees, dereliction of duty for willfully failing to protect detainees from abuse, cruelty and maltreatment, maltreatment of detainees, assaulting detainees, committing indecent acts, adultery, and obstruction of justice, Kimmitt said.
He will be arraigned along with two previously charged noncommissioned officers, Sgt. Jarval S. Davis and Staff Sgt. Ivan L. Frederick II, who face five charges each.
The court-martial of another previously charged soldier, Spc. Jeremy C. Sivits, is scheduled to begin May 19. Sivits faces three charges.
