The 46th Military Police Command; (also known as Task Force Peacekeeper) currently on a 12-month deployment conducting detention operations in Parwan province, Afghanistan, assumed responsibility for the mission of ensuring the safe and humane custody, control and care of detained persons in the Detention Facility in Parwan.
During a transfer of authority ceremony conducted July 20, 2010, BG Mandi Murray; the commander of Task Force Peacekeeper, took over for Col. John F. Garrity, the commander of Task Force Protector, Headquarters, Headquarters Company, 16th Military Police Brigade (Airborne).
During the ceremony, Vice Admiral Robert Harward, Commander, Joint Task Force 435 spoke about the great job Task Force Protector did with their mission and the expectations he has of Task Force Peacekeeper, noting that he and BG Murray will talk on the phone several times over the coming weeks. BG Murray replied with a large smile on her face, “ Sir, Task Force Peacekeeper is up to the task , and I am looking forward to your first phone call. “
BG Murray talked of the immense responsibility officers and noncommissioned officers under her command would undertake during their deployment, and the huge shoes they have to fill taking over for Task Force Protector.
Under Task Force Peacekeeper’s watch, the Afghan National Army’s training efforts will become the cornerstone of US detention operations in Afghanistan. Their efforts will enable Afghan National Army Soldiers to be trained to take over from their United States counterparts and run the detention Facility. As TF Peacekeeper service members continue to partner with their Afghan counterparts, their mutual efforts are paying off and today the Afghan guard force works alongside American service members inside a detainee housing unit in the Detention Facility in Parwan, providing professional custody, control and care to detainees.
