NEW ORLEANS – Soldiers of the Louisiana National Guard’s 2225th Multi Role Bridge Company, 205th Engineer Battalion, continue to run ferry transport operations in support of Deepwater Horizon oil spill operations in Grand Isle, La., July 20, 2010.
Using two improved ribbon bridge rafts, these Guardsmen have been moving personnel, supplies and collected debris between Grand Isle and East Grand Terre Islands off the coast of Louisiana since the middle of June.
The Soldiers transport civilian contractors to East Grand Terre with one of the rafts and use the other to transport equipment.
Many civilians prefer this method of transportation and mobility over other types of boats.
“The mission has been very successful. We do what other watercraft cannot because we are able to pull up right on the shore, which makes it easier for them to load and unload everything,” said Staff Sgt. Ron Ellison, of the 2225th.
“We know our mission is to help clean up Louisiana,” said 2nd Lt. Robert Ogden of the 2225th. “With the help of the civilian contractors, the oil is being removed.”
