A Marine assigned to the 1st Marine Expeditionary Force was killed in action March 14 while conducting security and stability operations in the Iraq's Anbar province, military officials in Baghdad announced.
Officials provided no further details.
In other news from Iraq, soldiers of the 155th Brigade Combat Team, serving with the 1st Marine Expeditionary Force, responded to a report March 14 of a possible improvised explosive device north of Forward Operating Base Kalsu. The soldiers located the IED, and explosive ordnance disposal personnel destroyed it in place.
Local civilians at the scene provided the soldiers with information about the possible IED makers responsible for the device. The soldiers conducted a cordon-and-search operation on two houses near the site. Numerous documents and possible IED-making materials were seized as a result, officials said. Five people were detained for questioning.
In a raid based on a tip, Task Force Liberty soldiers detained two Iraqi civilians with a large amount of explosives near Mansuriyah late March 14. The men had 70 sticks of TNT, three blocks of C4 plastic explosive and 30 blasting caps.
