A second U.S. soldier has died from injuries suffered in a vehicle accident Feb. 28, military officials in Baghdad, Iraq, reported today.

The name of the soldier is being withheld pending next-of-kin notification.

The soldier was a member of the 1st Corps Support Command, deployed from Fort Bragg, N.C., and was the second to die from the accident, which occurred about 20 miles northwest of Tikrit near the town of Bayji.

One soldier died at the scene, while the condition of a third soldier injured in the accident was not released. Officials said the cause of the accident is under investigation.

In other news from Iraq, U.S. military officials said Iraqi army soldiers conducting a route-reconnaissance mission on a road leading to Baghdad today killed eight insurgents and captured 11 after running into a terrorist checkpoint near the Wasit province line.

Four Iraqi soldiers were wounded in the incident.
