    Soldiers, Marines, Sailor Killed in Iraq Action

    One Task Force Liberty soldier was killed and another wounded when an improvised explosive device detonated next to their combat logistics patrol near Samarra, Iraq, today.

    The wounded soldier was evacuated to a coalition forces medical facility.

    Another IED killed two soldiers assigned to the 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Marine Division, 2nd Marine Expeditionary Force (Forward), today during combat operations near Khalidiyah, Iraq.

    In other action, three Marines and one sailor were killed in an attack coalition forces from a civilian hospital in Hadithah May 7. A number of terrorists reportedly were killed.

    While responding to small-arms fire near the Hadithah Dam, Marines observed civilians running from the Hadithah hospital. The unit was then attacked by a vehicle-borne IED, which destroyed a nearby building and caused the hospital to catch fire.

    Terrorists detonated an IED and fired small arms and rocket-propelled grenades from inside the hospital. Upon searching the facility, Marines found fortified firing positions with sand-bagged windows.

    The names of the deceased are being withheld till next-of-kin are notified.
