    President Clinton nominated Navy Vice Adm. Dennis C. Blair for assignment as director of the Joint Staff in the Pentagon.

    Blair, 49, is currently associate director of central intelligence for military support at the Central Intelligence Agency in McLean, Va. He will replace Air Force Lt. Gen. Walter Kross, nominated to command U.S. Transportation Command at Scott Air Force Base, Ill.

    The president nominated Air Force Maj. Gen. John A. Gordon to replace Blair and for appointment to lieutenant general. Gordon, also 49, currently works in the Office of the Secretary of the Air Force for Long-Range Plans in Washington.
