Five stateside defense installations earned the 1996 Commander in Chief's Award for Installation Excellence.
Defense Secretary William J. Perry announced the winners recently: Lackland Air Force Base, Texas; Cherry Point Marine Corps Air Station, N.C.; Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in Bremerton, Wash.; U.S. Army Armament Research, Development and Engineer Center, Picatinny Arsenal, N.J.; and the Defense Supply Center in Columbus, Ohio.
The award recognizes outstanding and innovative efforts of people who operate and maintain U.S. military installations. Defense officials said each winning installation succeeded in providing excellent working, housing and recreational conditions.
