President Clinton nominated Air Force Lt. Gen. Walter Kross for appointment to general with assignment as commander in chief, U.S. Transportation Command.
Kross, 53, will also assume command of Air Force's Air Mobility Command. Both commands base operations at Scott Air Force Base, Ill. He currently serves as director, Joint Staff, at the Pentagon.
Kross will replace Air Force Gen. Robert L. Rutherford.
