The Defense Commissary Agency announced the winners of this year's Best Commissary Awards during ceremonies recently at the American Logistics Association's 50th Annual Convention in Philadelphia.

The Best Commissary Awards are named in memory of statesmen who protected the commissary benefit and championed quality of life issues for the military and their families.
Competition winners received large engraved silver bowl trophies and finalists received smaller engraved trophies at the ceremony. The finalists were:
Average monthly sales and geographic location determine the competition categories. Large U.S. commissaries have average monthly sales exceeding $1.5 million, and small U.S. commissaries have monthly sales of less than $1.5 million. Large overseas commissaries have average monthly sales of $750,000 or more, and small overseas commissaries average less than $750,000.
Judging began in early summer with the seven DeCA regions nominating their best stores. Three agency teams conducted on-site evaluations of the 17 nominees.
DeCA operates a worldwide chain of nearly 300 commissaries for military personnel, retirees and their families.
