The Armed Forces Sports Office released its list of DoD athletes and officials slated to attend the 1996 Summer Olympic Games in Atlanta. The games begin July 19.

Eighteen military athletes earned spots in women's basketball, shooting, Greco-Roman wrestling, track, men's team handball and weightlifting by competing in U.S. Olympic trials. Ten others qualified as alternates in boxing, Greco-Roman wrestling, shooting and women's team handball. Six have coaching roles.

Karen White of the Armed Forces Sports Office said two Army athletes have a chance for a berth in the modern pentathlon. Top-ranked and two-time Olympian Michael Gostigian is favored to win one slot. However, Spc. Scott Christie and 1st Lt. Jim Gregory rank second and third and have a chance at berths.
